SafetyTek - Digital OHS EHS management software

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan—February 6, 2019—SafetyTek Software, a Canadian firm transforming workplace safety processes, based in Saskatoon and San Francisco, has joined the NVIDIA Inception program, which is designed to nurture startups revolutionizing industries with advancements in AI and data sciences.

SafetyTek is a core a technology that is built to engage workers in the performance of safety in the workplace. By engaging workers, it automatically enforces a company’s safety program. The problem with safety in its current state is that safety paperwork actually blocks real safety. The administrative burden stops workers from participating in safety, causing incidents to occur that would otherwise be totally preventable. Every day, regulations in safety are advancing and yet companies are stuck with archaic processes to manage it.

SafetyTek is changing this with its platform technology to implement and manage safety. The platform replaces all processes that exist within the paperwork and bridges the gap between the field and the office, on through to executive reporting. SafetyTek delivers accountable real-time safety performance.

The NVIDIA Inception program will take SafetyTek to the next level by assisting in the development in Spence.AI, an artificial intelligence safety assistant powered from the SafetyTek platform. Spence.AI will work in three key ways to automate or even replace more processes in safety:

  • Natural language processing will accept and perform requested tasks through text, email, and voice.
  • Deep learning pattern recognition will model past worker behaviour to predict future behaviour and create rules to take action.
  • OCR/vision technology will accept paper documents and create the digital submissions for them through automated transcription.

SafetyTek is implementing three phases of AI into its platform, all of which could greatly benefit from GPU acceleration. Firstly, it is creating a personal assistant which will use deep learning to classify intent from short texts. The assistant uses the StarSpace neural network. As more data is added, the depth of the network will increase, in the embedding and other layers. GPU acceleration will become very important as the network becomes deeper. Secondly, especially applicable to deep learning, SafetyTek is building a time-series anomaly detection model – using a deep RNN with LSTM or GRU units – with the aim of predicting certain events such as safety incidents. Lastly, SafetyTek is using OCR, based on its deep CNN technology, for form-building technology, as well as allowing electronic, automated submissions of forms via pictures. NVIDIA GPU computing power is the only practical way to train these models in near real-time in order to make decisions that could save somebody’s life.

NVIDIA’s Inception program is a virtual accelerator program that helps startups during critical stages of product development, prototyping and deployment. Every Inception member gets a custom set of ongoing benefits, from hardware grants and marketing support to training with deep learning experts.

About SafetyTek Software
SafetyTek Software is the world’s first comprehensive safety management software platform that delivers accountable real-time safety performance by collecting field level data from the workers on site in the form of hazard assessments, toolbox talks, fall protection plans, etc, and feeding that data directly to dashboards for tracking. Then the platform can produce the reports necessary for company leaders to make data backed decisions on safety. Once fully implemented SafetyTek has measured an 85% decrease in incidents occurring at the workplace after a single year of use.
